The CHECK-LIST that your company should have ready before 12 August
The new European packaging regulation is already in place.
The new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will come into effect on 12 August 2026, Many companies are not yet aware of the real impact it will have on their operations, packaging, declarations and compliance strategy.
And that affects:
- Product producers
- Importers to Spain/ exporters to Europe
- Distributors
- Retailers
- eCommerce
- Own brands
- Industrial operators
- Virtually any company that puts packaging on the European market.
Interzero Spain has prepared this practical checklist to help companies identify the main critical points they should review before August 2026.
PPWR CHECK-LIST: what should your company start checking?
Roles and responsibilities
☐ Does your company know whether it acts as a manufacturer, producer, importer or distributor?
Have you identified the responsibilities associated with each type of packaging?
Have you reviewed how this affects the different countries where you operate?
Packaging and materials
Do you have an up-to-date inventory of all your packaging?
Do you have traceability on materials, weights and formats?
Have you identified potential problem packaging for future recyclability requirements?
Recyclability and recycled content
Do you know which packaging might need to be redesigned in the coming years?
Do you have validated information on recycled content?
Are your suppliers already providing you with this information?
Labelling and marking
Have you analysed how the new marking requirements could affect your packaging?
Do you have the capacity to adapt designs and labelling quickly?
Technical documentation
Do you have up-to-date technical documentation on your packaging?
Do you have identified the information that suppliers and manufacturers will have to provide you with ☐ Is there an internal system for keeping and validating documentation?
Internal organisation
Is the sustainability, procurement, quality and operations team aligned?
Is there already a roadmap for adaptation to PPWR?
Have you calculated the potential economic and operational impact?
Many of the changes that PPWR will require are not implemented for weeks:

- Coordination with suppliers
- Revision of packaging
- Documentary adaptation
- Internal planning.
At Interzero Spain we help companies understand how PPWR really affects them and what steps to prioritise according to their business, materials and markets.
