History - key moments
2022Setting a goal for the future and founding Interzero: The owners of the ALBA Group, to which Interseroh also belongs, are restructuring the group of companies. They are creating agile units that respond to market needs and individual business models. In this way, Dr. Axel Schweitzer is tackling, among others, the Asian business and the plastics recycling business. With the introduction of the Interzero brand, he underlines the company's international vision of a "world without waste".
2021Launch of the new Interseroh+ system, with an innovative concept that goes far beyond the licensing of packaging. The aim is to close the material cycle in a "recycling alliance" with industry and trade, thus jointly creating a closed-loop economy that benefits companies as well as resource and climate protection.
2019: Point in time for the entry into force of the German Packaging Act on 1 January 2019: Following the successful launch of the packaging licence shop Lizenzero In summer 2018, the Dual System Interzero (DSI) is now available to packaging distributors of all sizes with solutions tailored to their needs.
Interzero is also extending its services internationally and is present with environmental services in Austria, Slovenia, Poland, Croatia, Czech Republic and Italy.
2018: For the eleventh consecutive year, the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT has proven the positive effects of recycling valuable materials. In addition, as of 2018, companies can optimise the recyclability of their packaging on the basis of a new, scientifically based method: the "Made for Recycling" quality label, created for recycling. In addition, in 2018, Interzero and Saubermacher AG founded the joint venture SIMPLi RETURN GmbHthe first collection and recycling system for lithium-ion batteries.
2017: Online shop goes live brandused.comA place where used and refurbished IT equipment or new and unused technical products from company sales or warehouses are sold to end customers to give the equipment a second life cycle.
2016Interzero is celebrating 25 years of success. Thanks to the trust placed in us by our national and international customers, we have so far returned 15 million tonnes of used packaging to raw material cycles, thus preserving valuable primary resources.
2011Baumarkt toom paint containers are the first product on the market made from procyclen, a recycled plastic created by Interzero. The material used for the containers consisted almost 100% of plastic waste collected from various recycling systems in Germany.
2009: Closed-loop plastic recycling: Interzero develops "Recycled-Resource", an award-winning method for recycling plastic.
2008Interzero becomes part of the ALBA Group, a leading recycling and raw materials supplier, adding its compressed expertise to the company's portfolio.
2007Year of reusable bulk transport packaging: Interzero develops innovative reusable bulk transport packaging solutions.
2006Interzero becomes the first company in the market to receive a national licence from the German "dual system" for its recycling services. The resulting market competition succeeded in significantly increasing the recycling rate of packaging waste.
2000Together with Repasack, Interzero offers a unique pan-European collection and recycling system for kraft paper sacks. The company is also involved in environmental education by initiating the award-winning "Eco Dragon" project for the collection of empty printer toner cartridges in schools and kindergartens.
1997Interzero's services enter the international arena with the establishment of the subsidiary EVA Erfassen und Verwerten von Altstoffen GmbH (today: Interzero Austria GmbH) as an integrated service provider in Austria. In the following years, a steady expansion takes place in countries such as Slovenia, Poland, Croatia and Bosnia.
1991This is where it all began. Initially, the company's activities focused on the recycling of packaging waste. Subsequently, Interzero began to expand its portfolio as a global provider of integrated environmental services, setting worldwide standards for solutions for waste prevention, modern sorting and innovative recycling.

By adopting waste reduction, reuse and recycling strategies, they not only contribute to the care of the planet, but also unlock new possibilities to generate value from their waste.
In our dedicated sustainability magazine "INTERZERO Sustainability Magazine". we would like to present how companies and the environment benefit from the innovative solutions offered by INTERZERO in the circular economy. Become part of our movement and start reducing your ecological footprint. Because climate and nature protection is a team sport. With INTERZERO, you will increase the sustainability of your company, create sustainable products and increase your long-term profit opportunities while helping the environment.
Global Footprint Network research shows that in 2024 our global actions have delayed Earth Overshooting Day by 7 minutes and 16 seconds worldwide.
The Environmental Debt Day, also known as "Overshoot Day is the symbolic date of the year in which humanity has used more natural resources than the Earth can renew. From that moment until the end of the year, we are operating on ecological "credit", using more resources than our ecosystem can regenerate. This is an alarming indicator of the overexploitation and pressure we are putting on the planet.
Together, customers and partners can reduce the overexploitation of natural resources. Recycling and reusing materials protects the planet and helps by significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helps preserve biodiversity.
